Any good advice for helping my relative kick a marijuana addiction?

I'd love to help him out, since he asked for my advice. Thanks.Any good advice for helping my relative kick a marijuana addiction?
A. Make sure he does not associate with any regular marijuana users or anyone who is currently high or smoking

B. Support

C. Offer other things to keep his mind off it such as exercising

D. Make sure he doesn't start regularly using any other substances*important*Any good advice for helping my relative kick a marijuana addiction?
If he wants to stop, he will stop.

If it is for health reasons, like COPD or asthma, or something like that, than giving up cigarettes would be better.

If it is because he feels like he is addicted, then he should go to NA meetings, and you can go to alanon.

If he says he wants to quit cause he just goes through too much money, he should learn that 3 hits in 15 minutes, will get him just as high, that 3 bowls in 1 hour will do.

And if it's because he keeps losing his stash, tell him I will hang onto it for him, and it will be there till he wants it.
Its not a big deal.. he's not addicted to it anymore than someone can be addicted to soda... weed is not physically addictive.. just as soda is not physically addictive.... you cant teach people will power which is all he needs.. just like fat people need that to lose weight and stop eating too much and force themselves to workout and do stuff they dont feel like doing..... he just needs a reason... he's probably depressed... until he cures his depression he will want to smoke... and even then.. its still fun... its probably going to be legal in cali soon anyways.. so just help him make guidelines to when he can smoke... like after 8 at night and on weekends.. once he gets used to the new routine he wont want to smoke before then.. marijuana users are creatures of habit most often when it comes to how they organize their lives

theres a bob saget scene from half baked ... but I wont quote it here.. haha.. but its hilarious and kind of makes the same point...

lol and smoking one joint is NOT like smoking 7 cigarettes... thats the biggest crock I've heard in a long time... lol .. in fact look up how the ';just say no'; campaign started.... reagan was doing a study on the bad long term effects of marijuana... and they couldnt find any... so they cancelled the study and came up with ';just say no'; lol and marijuana was made illegal to make us dependant on oil ... the original cars.. the prototypes by ford were made out of hemp completely.. the bodies and everything... and they ran on hemp oil... but it was a big political thing so they made alcohol legal (which was illegal) and started the prohibition... its ridiculous because its safer than alcohol and makes you a more peaceful person... and just look up the facts.. .everything I've said is true... check out the ';history of marijuana'; that aired on the history channel
For years, they showed spots on TV saying that having meaningful activities cures drug abuse. That sounds right.

I used to smoke a lot of pot. I did it because my family was so awful, only I didnt know it. I was depressed underneath the surface. Only in therapy did I find out what ';emotional abuse'; is.

So my advice would be to tell him to talk with a therapist and find out why he smokes so much. Its such a waste of time. People who love life and have a plan, dont smoke pot that much, if at all. They just have better things to do.
i wonder who said ';hey this is a plant lets light it and inhale'; and I wonder why they call it pot? is this because its sometimes grown in a pot? wouldnt it be funny if you grew pot in your potty (pot)

and why does pot give one the munchies?
Just stop. Marijuana is not addictive. It is his own will that causes him to use it. Tell him to stop hanging around the people who supply him with it. and get his act together. He has to want to change his lifestyle.
Fill him in with some facts?

1) One marijuana joint is like smoking about 7 cigarettes.

2) Kills brain cells.

3) Its illegal!

Good luck.

=)
Weed can be addictive just like anything can be addictive, it's just not the same way other drugs can. I do not have any advice, I just felt that I should clear that up best of luck.
just say no....... no seriously, weed is not at all addictive....... I do believe that has been proven, if he wants to stop all he has to do is put it down.
get him a girl friend so he can be entertained, you no :)

good luck with him.
Tell him to get off his lazy butt and Get a Job.

Adopted a puppy. He is still a bit thin. Need advice on how to help him put on some weight.?

We adopted a puppy (approximately 4 months old now) And he was neglected. And was skinny. He's put on some weight, but not enough. How do we help him put on weight when he just nibbles here and there. He'll sometimes eat a ';meal'; but most of the time it'll be a little bit here and there. When we first brought him home he pigged out.Adopted a puppy. He is still a bit thin. Need advice on how to help him put on some weight.?
Have him on premium food? Try mixing a little something with it (just a little) to entice him to eat his entire meal.

Like cottage cheese, or vanilla yogurt. Maybe even a spoonful of wet food. Most premium foods also have a wet line.

We picked up a very small puppy a few years back off the side of the highway and he didn't want to eat either. That was what my vet suggested and it worked out great. Once he got his appetite back I cut back on the morsels.Adopted a puppy. He is still a bit thin. Need advice on how to help him put on some weight.?
He probably has a stomach ache.... I have seen on animal police shows that when a starving dog is brought in, they give him small amounts of food several times a day. This is because he isn't used to having a lot of food in his stomach. it has gotten small due to lack of food. you have to give him time and don't give him too much food in one sitting.

Good Luck!
thats very normal dont worry he will grow and put on enough weight and make sure he is eating enough healthy food!!

p.s DONT WORRY !!
He's now feling safe that you will provide him iwht food, so he's not wolfing his food so greedily. If you need to supplement him to gain weight, try Nutristat or Nutrical. Google it to find a supplier. Use very small amounts at first as too much will give him diarrhea. About a 1/4 teaspoon per 10 lbs.
Get him on a quality food.

For a pup, I suggest Canidae, because its protein levels are good, and its high quality.

Stay away from Purina, Pedigree, Ol Roy, Beneful, Science Diet, Iams, and Eukanuba. They are low quality, and use chemical preservaties, bad meat sources, and lots of corn.

You can try these also:

http://www.njboxers.com/satin-balls-reci鈥?/a>
If a puppy is on a healthy food, he will eat as much as he needs. Dogs eat less of the quality foods due to them getting the nutrients they need in less amounts.

As long as it's a good puppy food, he will put on the weight in time. As they grow they will go through stages. Typically they grow ';up'; and look lean and lanky. Then they fill out to catch up with the height they've gained.

Certain foods such as Nutro Natural Choice, Wellness, Natural Balance Etc Etc are really good and healthy foods. Basically, anything that comes from a grocery store or your local Wal Mart should be avoided.

Go with a puppy food that is for your breed of dog. Such as, if it's a dog of a larger breed, go with a large breed puppy formula. If it's a smaller breed, use the small bites puppy or small breed puppy foods.

Of course, a vet check up is also always a good idea to ensure proper health!

Have fun with your new puppy and thank you for adopting!
I suggest mixing bacon grease in with his dog food, not only will it fatten him up, it will make his coat really shiny. I would only do this for about 2 weeks though or you will have to give him bacon every time he eats...
First, have your Vet check him out thoroughly from head to toe. You want to rule out any health issues. Once he has a clean bill of health, get him on a quality puppy formulated food. To encourage him to eat and to eat when you want him to, there are a few things to do. First, feed him at the time you want him to eat. Put his dish down and leave it for 15 minutes, then remove it until the next meal time. Do this again. In a day or two, maybe three, he will realize he must eat when it's offered or go without until the next meal.

To encourage him to eat his kibble, add cottage cheese or yogurt to it. Either is a healthy addition to the food and dogs usually love either of them. Stir it in good so that the kibble is coated with the cottage cheese or yogurt. He will probably start looking forward to those meals and eat it all up when you put his dish down for him.
Try a variety of foods.
Has he been wormed and vet checked? If he used to pig out, but now he doesn't, there could be another underlying problem here.

Or else, teach him to eat. Set a time each day when it is his feed time, ( probably even twice a day for now) and allow him 20 mins to eat his food. Whatever he doesn t eat,, pick up and he gets NOTHING until the next meal time. He will learn that he is not living in a restaurant, and he must eat what is on offer or go hungry. This helps prevent dogs becoming fussy too.

Also, have you changed the brand/flavour/type of food? If so, maybe go back to what he was eating until he fills out a bit more.

Good Luck!
Have you wormed him? He is not going to put on any weight if he has worms---worms will rob him of all the nutrition you pour into him. If he has been wormed and has no underlying medical problems just be patient. Feed him twice a day. If you leave food out all the time that's all he will do is nibble. Get him on a schedule--just like a baby---and feed him at the same times every day. Feed him a good puppy formula, he needs the extra nutrition.
Hi, I have been breading dogs for quite a while and I use eukanuba, it has the most fat content and makes the dogs coats look the most brilliant. As far as the weight of you pup I would do two things. First I would add a little bit of yogurt or one raw egg in the food. Dogs love this and both are good for there coat and weight. Other things I have herd of people doing is feeding there dogs hot dogs, no im not joking. Hot dogs are high in fat, (the problem is they are high in salt also) so get a low salt hot dog. high in salt also) so get a low salt hot dog.
Go to the vet and ask what food would be best for your pet.
First have him checked out.

Worms can really negatively affect your new friends eating habits.

If there is no underlying problem do this:

1. buy a ham

2. cook it (no glazes)

3. sit your dog down in front of it

4. leave the room.

if the ham is still there, eat it yourself to make sure he knows how.

remember, he has no thumbs so he can't hold a fork or knife.

he can probably hold a spoon though.

  • I need help dealing with a creditor, can anyone help? advice? about one of my credit cards?

ok heres the situation, i have a credit card with this creditor, well i missed 2 automated payments due to closing a bank account and forgetting to update on their end. well i update on their end, and they charged me late fee of $39 and overlimit fee of $39 . i went overlimit because of the late fee they charged, and wouldnt waive due to having to close a bank account. anyway now, im paying $20 a week to them for the last 3 months and my balance keeps increasing! it went from 375 or so to now 611, because they keep charging me overlimit fees and other assments!! im a student and new to this credit card thing and every time i call them and say hey im paying $80 a month whys my limit keep going up, they run around the bush on me. i dont know what to do, no one there will listen to me and work with me and refund the fees since ive been paying and now its like im paying and my balance keeps going up!! what shouldi do??????? im so upset and worried and they just get snippy and nastyI need help dealing with a creditor, can anyone help? advice? about one of my credit cards?
Welcome to predatory student lending. I have SOOOOO been there.

In reverse order you may have asked to close the account, but if they are still charging additional fees, the account is active. Basically they are allowed the keep the account open as long as there is a balance. This is how they make their money, and this is what they expect you to do. Think about it, the goal is to turn a profit, not to be fair. They don't have to be.

Get rid of the balance ASAP. Find a way to borrow the money from a relative if possible. Even if you have to pay back twice the amount you borrow, it will still be cheaper.

If you cannot borrow the money from a relative, try your local bank, see if you can take out a line of credit loan or open a credit card account with a balance transfer option.

Your local bank will be more accomodating (especially if it's a credit union).

Your other option is to quit paying entirely. Normally, not guaranteed, but normally after about 3-4 months they will write off the account to bad debt with a fixed balance. Once in bad debt you can sometimes negotiate a little (after the first phone call) for a settlement amount.

****BUT BE WARNED THEY CAN AND VERY WELL MAY SEEK A JUDGMENT AGAINST YOU*****

IF they do so, immediately seek out a legal aid service and do NOT ignore the judgment request paperwork. You can possibly get out of the debt entirely, or get the debt reduced if you do appear. If you don't they get what they ask for, and it may be 3-4 times greater than your ';real'; balance.

Oddly, I feel compelled to say that this isn't a legal opinion and you should consult an attorney as this is my personal experience and the lessons that I learned from mistakes I have made.I need help dealing with a creditor, can anyone help? advice? about one of my credit cards?
First, keep one credit card in good standing. As far as this theiving credit card company goes. Tell them that if they do not drop these fees and credit you back, you will not pay them a dime. This amount is so low it is crazy. I would not care what they do to your credit, because you are in the right. They would rather get their money, and if you write them a check and on the check say final payment, by law that is it.
Credit card companies are notorious for this and they especially prey and ignore young college students. Try this link below - they do not charge a fee. Below is an exerpt of what type of help you are looking for. Good luck

    http://www.credit-counselors.cc/

When appropriate, we will recommend our Debt Management Program (DMP). Credit Counselors works with unsecured creditors (credit card companies, doctors, lawyers, etc.). We negotiate with your creditors to arrange special considerations, including lowering payments, reducing interest rates, waiving fees, and re-aging accounts. You simply make one monthly payment to Credit Counselors and then we distribute payments to each of your creditors
It sounds like you are doing the right things. Continue to reach out to them on a regular basis, and document your conversations. It sounds like they are still keeping it internal (haven't sent it to a collection agency), so you should be alright. You should draft a letter that someone could easily walk through and understand what happend, when and why... The fact of the matter is this is how the cc companies make money - they charge us interest and fees (and on the other sidem they charge the merchants, too!) - As long as you continue to pay them and document your situation, and stay in touch with them, you are better off (most times) than calling a credit consolidation burreau or bankrupcy or whatever. The deal for them, though, is they want to get paid, and the longer it goes on, the less likely they feel they will get paid. It sounds like they are squeezing you pretty hard. You can agree to pay them a lesser amount - like 75% - in a lump sum (and pay someone back who can front the money to you), or tell them that you will have to look at alternatives like credit consolidation or bankrupcy....No fun, but hope that helps.
Wow thats grounds for a lawsuit against them, harassment, and a host of other things talk with an legal professional. Legal aid can help then check into a hospital for a breakdown.
next time you call, maybe ask for the supervisor or manager ..explain that it is your intention to pay but cannot pay off if they keep charging you the extra $$$

Help! Advice on moving to France?

I'm trying to move to Paris next year for school. I know it's one of the most expensive cities in the world, but it's something I've always wanted. I need advice as to how to get the best job's there, noting that I will be a student as well. Also, what is the cheapest living arrangements? I was told Hostels are my safest bet, but I also want to know if there are any other options. Anything extra would be appreciated, thank you!Help! Advice on moving to France?
A laudable ambition and one that will provide many benefits but have you thought this out?

Are you planning on doing a year abroad in conjunction with with present college or are you simply hoping to enroll in a French University? If the latter then do you already speak French well enough to actually take a class taught in the French language?

University in France is close to being free (no tuition charges and only a small student fee) but Paris is, indeed, a very expensive city to live in. A foreign student can get a work permit but the number of total hours you may work is limited and jobs are scarce.

French students tend to live in very cramped quarters and costs require most of them to share accomodations with other students. Hostels are inexpensive but only in comparision to hotels and most are just not suitable for a student's regular quarters.

P.S. I noticed the pictures you posted in another question. I'll answer that question here. You are, in my opinion, a truly beautiful young lady. I have no knowledge whatever of the fashion industry but it seems to me that you ought to be able to work as a model. But you should ask Y!Answers user sweetmommy who actually was a fashion model in Paris what she thinks. She allows email so perhaps you could ask her directly if she doesn't happen to answer this question herself.Help! Advice on moving to France?
Students have student visas, and people who are working have work visas.

You don't get to do both. Not as a foreigner. and really, very few French students work, either. Just kick back and enjoy the freedom of NOT HAVING to work! enjoy! go out at night, hang at discos, pubs, caf茅s, and movie theaters. Enjoy the life of being in France! TRAVEL!!! Take advantage of the opportunities. You will work when you get back.

as for places to live, well, aren't you going on a school program? One year, right? The school people will help you arrange living situations. Hostels are NOT for living in, only for short-term arrangements, and I don't think they even allow you to stay for more than a week.
Hi, try reading the Steven Clarke books,

A year in the merde and Merde Actually. Very funny, but there are some good tips there.

Last time we were in Paris, we went to the Auld Alliance pub in the Marais. There was a young lady there who had just made the move, and was there for a bit of support.

Go, enjoy. Maybe keep a diary to publish later and become famous.

I've just thought of another boo,

Books Bagettes and Bedbugs by Jeremy Mercer is about Shakespeare and Company bookstore by Notre Dame. That could inspire too. This may still be an option for free accomodation.

this sounds fine if your listing the general responsibilities of a past position. What yo might want to do is to bullet some items where you went above and beyond. For instance

Reconciled all assigned accounts verifying receipt of payment reducing increasing accuracy by 5% or whatever you could guess. Let them know the results of your work. what did you do to save time, money. these are things hiring man angers are looking for.

Mother dog acting strange toward pup...need help/advice/sumn?

Okay here's the story...I took my pup to the vet because he had a broken jaw and he's been there for a week. He returned last night and the mother just came and sniffed him then walked away. Now she's been giving the other two pups attention like checking them for fleas and cleaning them but she just walks past the other pup. I just wanna know whats really happening...has she forgotten that he's her pup or what???Mother dog acting strange toward pup...need help/advice/sumn?
It is likely that your mother dog is a bit confused. She doesn't understand that you took her pup away to help him and now he has come back and smells all different, vet clinics smell very strongly of cleaning agents and other animals. He probably looks very different too being 1 week older! Dogs rely on their sense of smell a lot to identify other animals.

To help mum dog recognise her baby again I would suggest rubbing mum and the other two pups with a towel and then rubbing the broken jaw pup with the same towel, this will help make him smell more like the litter.

Give mum time to readjust to the reintroduced puppy, i'm sure she'll come round in time. Keep a close eye on the little fellow in the meantime, he may need some extra puppy milk or food depending on his age and whether he is feeding from mum still. Good luck.Mother dog acting strange toward pup...need help/advice/sumn?
usually when there is something wrong with one of the pups, the mother abandons them and leaves them alone (it's like this with a lot of animals). If this continues, they feeding the pup and raising it on your own with out the mother. Also try to put the pup near her and see what happens, just make sure she doesn't attack him. How old is the pup btw?
well, when you go 2 the doctor for one week, do you smell exactly the way u were? Maybe the mother just is unfamiliar with his new smell. wait till the pup gets his old smell back
She knows its her pup, put the pup under her nose so she can smell him. Stay with them both though incase mumturns on the pup.
For one, he smells and looks completley different. While she hasn't forgotten, she's not sure what to do with him anymore due to the scents, etc... She's confused. Also, by instinct, she knows something's wrong with the pup and her ';survival of the fittest'; instinct has probably kicked in. Most dogs will turn away a pup and focus all their attention/energy on the others if a pup is too small, sick, or injured. That's natural instinct.

I also recommend rubbing the mom (especially her nipple area, just be gentle) and the other two pups with a towel thoroughly and then doing the same with him. Also, you could try gently lifting his tail and placing his rear close to her nose. Regardless of whether or not WE like the idea, rear sniffing is one of the best ways for a dog to get to know another dog. This can help lessen her confusion by confriming that this IS her pup and may help reassure her to take care of the pup.

Keep him near her, and keep an eye on them. Don't push or rush it, as that can make her rejection worse and she'll turn away from him altogether. If you need to, remove the other pups for an hour or so and leave her with just him, with your supervision. Also, you may want to go and buy some puppy replacement milk to supplement him until she's willing to care for him again. I'd get a couple cans just in case she DOESN'T accept him back, which may very well happen. Best of luck to you and the pup!

By the way, if you DO end up having to hand raise the pup, keep him with mom while he's not eating so long as she's not acting agressively towards him. Even if she's not feeding him, this could give her a chance to teach him CRUCIAL puppy lessons that all pups need from their mothers that humans just can't seem to replace. Such as biting, food boundaries, etc... He'll need these in order to be a slightly better behaved puppy in the future. Again, good luck to you both!

EDIT: Given that the pup is two months old, this is more or less normal. She's more then likely wheening the pups altogether now. The pup's age can also be a factor in why she's ignoring this pup. At this age, you may see her doing it with the other two as well. At this age, this is more or less normal.
